- Coastal erosion is the erosion of the land by
- the constant battering of the sea's waves.
- This produces two effects. The first is a
- hydraulic effect, in which the force of the
- wave compresses air pockets in coastal rocks
- and cliffs, and the air then expands
- explosively. The second is the effect of
- corrasion, in which rocks and pebbles are
- flung against the cliffs, wearing them away.
