  1. Coastal erosion is the erosion of the land by
  2. the constant battering of the sea's waves. 
  3. This produces two effects. The first is a
  4. hydraulic effect, in which the force of the
  5. wave compresses air pockets in coastal rocks 
  6. and cliffs, and the air then expands
  7. explosively. The second is the effect of 
  8. corrasion, in which rocks and pebbles are
  9. flung against the cliffs, wearing them away.
